Insomniac Games will release Marvel’s Wolverine for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026, delivering a mature-rated experience far removed from its earlier superhero titles.
The game adopts Logan’s violent tendencies, aging cynicism, and a world where mutants face relentless persecution. Its tone and mechanics emphasize endurance and brutality, reflecting the character’s berserker nature.

Combat relies on a Rage system divided into three tiers. Successful attacks, parries, and kills generate Rage, unlocking stronger moves and a Healing Factor that revives Logan from near-death. If health depletes, a Last Stand quick-time event can trigger a final regeneration. The system discourages passive play, as Rage decays faster at higher levels, pushing players toward aggression.
Stealth offers tactical advantages. Logan’s Enhanced Senses allow tracking enemies by scent, hearing heartbeats, and ambushing from above. Stealth kills build Rage without decay, and passive healing activates when out of combat. The game’s “wide-linear” design provides expansive, detailed levels with multiple routes, though it avoids open-world freedom. A motorcycle chase sequence lets Logan engage enemies mid-highway.
Injuries tear Logan’s clothing, revealing muscle and adamantium beneath. Wounds close in real time, with scars fading as health regenerates, reinforcing his unkillable nature.

Insomniac’s recent releases suggest Wolverine will include a Fidelity mode (30fps, 4K) and a Performance mode (60fps), possibly with ray tracing. The studio’s last four major titles—Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Spider-Man 2—offered similar options, with the latter two supporting PS5 Pro enhancements.
Accessibility options will cover cognitive, visual, auditory, and motor needs at launch. The game will not arrive on PC, reflecting Sony’s policy of keeping single-player exclusives on PlayStation hardware.

Insomniac has ruled out a crossover with Spider-Man, despite both games existing in the same universe (Earth-1048). The decision to exclude a PC version may disappoint some, particularly after Spider-Man 2 launched on Steam in 2024.
The last Wolverine-focused game, 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, left little impression. This effort aims to change that perception.
